Ethical & Environmental Considerations
It’s no secret that the apparel industry has a sustainability problem. We all know about the fast fashion companies that stockpile thousands of new items every week. We can all think of someone with leftover conference sweatshirts or tote bags in a box in their garage.
21% of all produced textiles are estimated to remain unsold. The end-of-life journey for leftover stock is most often unknown
At Playlunch, we only make a product after one of your members buys it, avoiding excess stock and reducing textile waste.
- Sustainability: Our printing partner’s high-quality printing tech creates almost no wastewater and uses less energy than standard industry printers.
- Printing inks: The inks we use for printing are Oeko-Tex™ certified, vegan, water-based, and free of harmful chemicals. Leftover ink is disposed of according to the ink supplier sustainability guidelines.
- Embroidery: Generally embroidery is more durable and produces less waste, as there’s no ink residue. We embroider our products with 100% recycled polyester threads. These threads are also Oeko-Tex™ certified, meaning they’re safe for both adult and children’s clothing.
- Quality: We prefer to use NZ business, ascolour for clothing and totes. Their Code of Conduct means we can be sure we act respectfully and responsibly.
- A Vegan option: Most products contain no animal products but a PETA-Approved Vegan product range from a separate suopplier can be sourced if required.
